An Unmarred Moment

June 26, 2008

When I put Caleb down for a nap today, he wasn’t ready to go to sleep. He cried for a few minutes until I went back in his room to check on him. I picked him up and he laid his head on my shoulder while I rocked him and sang in his ear. It was perfect. The moments parents must live for. I will never be able to get enough of that feeling of having his body laying against me for comfort. No moment in time could be more complete.

Yes, it makes up for the lack of sleep, colic, baby vomit in your hair, nappies, tantrums and everything else. Seriously, one moment like that makes up for all the rest but you get lots of moments like that as a parent.

    Not getting broody are you?

I have already experienced a slight taste of most of that stuff. And I fully believe that for most people the good makes up for the crappy. And I know it will for me….

Broody? I looked up the definition and still couldn’t figure out quite where you were going with that….

Tiffany, sorry. Broody means to desire a child of your own. It’s commonly thrown about when talking about young women who hang over the buggies of their friend’s children making cooing noises. I think the phrase comes from the idea of a broody hen clucking over her eggs. Some regions int he North of England also call women “hen” or “chuck”.

I was only half being cheeky. I didn’t know that American’s don’t use it.

No apology necessary! I figured it was something like that but to be on the safe side decided to make sure.

I definitely do not want to have kids for a little while. Being a nanny has definitely taught me that there is no rush. However, when that time in my life comes I will be ecstatic!

We don’t use cheeky over here either but I know what it means and I think I might try to bring that word to the south!
